17. Sustainable Procurement Policy 

Currently contains detailed policies in relation to:

  • Purchase of energy from renewable sources

  • Purchase of energy efficient products

  • Ban on the use of certain environmentally damaging products

  • Purchase of sustainably produced products (e.g. timber, organic food) Purchase of recycled products (e.g. paper)

  • Use of native species

  • Purchase of biodegradable products

  • Consideration of whole life costs

  • Environmental considerations in contract specifications and tenders

  • Waste minimisation (e.g. re-use, repair, recycle)


Environmental Procurement Policy 

"The Council will use its purchasing power to promote environmental sustainability, when choosing products and when contracting services.

The Council will work with suppliers to provide sustainable versions of current purchases.

The Council, when embarking on new procurement, will include sustainability in Tender Specifications.

By making a commitment to this policy the Council continues to work towards its vision 'to be an excellent Council, improving peoples lives.'"
